It appears to us that many of the common activities that we do (especially involving computers) are done on a regular but infrequent basis. We need a ‘manual for life’ which might be a re-purposing of the commonplace book for the modern age.
For example, I find after a trip, I invent different (slightly) ways to organize and sort the photos on Picasa. Shouldn’t there be a best way?
Similarly, I find that there are often different ways to organize articles that I find. How should I process them if they are in hard copy – by author and file away? Similarly, what should I do for HTML web page based discovery? Saving bookmarks does not do it for us.
Also, how should one transfer photos to an iPad? How to store and file music after buying it?
And then there are business processes, like a payroll cycle, using quicken to reconcile accounts, invoicing, bill paying, managing new accounts and ensuring electronic payment.
Finally, this extends to home/hobby projects such as managing photographs, library books, reading material, Arduino compiler, Processing setup.
